About Teri
I have been married 20 years and have two wonderful daughters; both active teens. Along, with being a wife and mother I have a strong passion to work with individuals and families to achieve healing and balance. I have worked in several areas professionally and in each area naturally feel into a role of counselor, teacher and support for my colleagues. Pursuing counseling professionally has allowed me to develop my gifts and help others find and build on theirs. It’s a privilege to partner with others on their journey to a higher quality of life. My role as a counselor is to establish a strong therapeutic relationship using empathy, creating an environment of mutual respect and honesty staying focused on the present and then reframing past issues or patterns that hinder progress. I utilize an integrative approach and am EMDR trained. Individual based treatments including cognitive behavioral and solutions focused techniques and provide a Christian counseling perspective if desired.
My experience includes working with older children, adolescents, and women, couples and families. I have worked with children in a school setting establishing social skills, behavior modification and instilling confidence primarily in students who have learning disabilities, developmental delays, and emotional regulation challenges. I worked with their families to implement strategies to increase family and school harmony. Equipping others with tools to self-regulate and embrace their uniqueness is very rewarding and motivating. During my practicum I worked with female adolescents and women at a women’s medical clinic. I have facilitated a mentoring group for high school students. Working in private practice I have had the opportunity to work with older children, adolescents, and their families. Also, supported couples in healing and strengthening their relationships.
In my personal time I like spending time outdoors, working out, running with my husband, watching my girls play sports, and playing with my family.
